Camp Harborview

You may have heard us talking about this on the air. Here are the full details:

Boston, MA (June 13, 2007): Greater Media, Inc. announces its five Boston-based radio properties will join together for the first time in Beantown radio history to host an on-air Radiothon to raise funds to benefit the newly constructed Camp Harbor View.

The project is an exciting new partnership between the City of Boston, Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc., and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. The program's mission is to provide a safe, dynamic and challenging summer camp experience for Boston youth between the ages of 11-14.

The day long on-air and on-line fundraising effort will take place on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 6am - 7pm. It will be broadcast live from the WTKK-FM, WKLB-FM, WROR-FM, WMJX-FM and WBOS-FM studios, located at 55 Morrissey Boulevard in Boston. In addition, listeners will have the opportunity to participate in a special on-line auction.

"Greater Media strongly believes in supporting the community," said Greater Media President and CEO Peter Smyth. "I'm very honored to be able to help Jack Connors and Mayor Menino in giving back to the City of Boston."

"This is our home and this effort is important," said Greater Media Boston Vice President and Market Manager Phil Redo. "We are happy to be in a position to jump in quickly to help raise money and awareness for this wonderful initiative.

Camp Harbor View, located on a 22-acre plot of land on Long Island in Boston Harbor, was developed by and operates under the auspices of The Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation established in March 2007. The foundation is governed by a board of directors comprised of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Jack Connors, Jr. and Peter Welsh. The camp is supported entirely by private funding.

Camp Harbor View will host two sessions during the summer of 2007, which will last four weeks each, beginning on July 2nd, and July 30th. The camp will operate from 9AM-6PM. There will be 300 campers in each session, serving a total of 600 children for the summer. The cost to the camper is only $5 per session.
The program will focus on four specific areas: Leadership Development, Environmental Education, Sports & Fitness and the Arts. In addition, there will be a number of program partners to enhance the experience for the campers, including: Project Adventure, Peace Games, Family Service of Greater Boston, the New England Aquarium, Mass Audubon, Save the Harbor-Save the Bay, Thompson Island Outward Bound, City Kicks, New England Scores, Tenacity, and Metro Lacrosse, Urban Improv and the Hip Hop Roundtable.

Contributions may also be made to the Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc. c/o the Connors Family Office, 200 Clarendon Street, 60th floor, Boston, MA 02116.
