Camp Harborview
You may have heard us talking about this on the air. Here are the full details:
Boston, MA (June 13, 2007): Greater Media, Inc. announces its five Boston-based radio properties will join together for the first time in Beantown radio history to host an on-air Radiothon to raise funds to benefit the newly constructed Camp Harbor View.
The project is an exciting new partnership between the City of Boston, Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc., and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. The program's mission is to provide a safe, dynamic and challenging summer camp experience for Boston youth between the ages of 11-14.
The day long on-air and on-line fundraising effort will take place on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 6am - 7pm. It will be broadcast live from the WTKK-FM, WKLB-FM, WROR-FM, WMJX-FM and WBOS-FM studios, located at 55 Morrissey Boulevard in Boston. In addition, listeners will have the opportunity to participate in a special on-line auction.
"Greater Media strongly believes in supporting the community," said Greater Media President and CEO Peter Smyth. "I'm very honored to be able to help Jack Connors and Mayor Menino in giving back to the City of Boston."
"This is our home and this effort is important," said Greater Media Boston Vice President and Market Manager Phil Redo. "We are happy to be in a position to jump in quickly to help raise money and awareness for this wonderful initiative.
Camp Harbor View, located on a 22-acre plot of land on Long Island in Boston Harbor, was developed by and operates under the auspices of The Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation established in March 2007. The foundation is governed by a board of directors comprised of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Jack Connors, Jr. and Peter Welsh. The camp is supported entirely by private funding.
Camp Harbor View will host two sessions during the summer of 2007, which will last four weeks each, beginning on July 2nd, and July 30th. The camp will operate from 9AM-6PM. There will be 300 campers in each session, serving a total of 600 children for the summer. The cost to the camper is only $5 per session.
The program will focus on four specific areas: Leadership Development, Environmental Education, Sports & Fitness and the Arts. In addition, there will be a number of program partners to enhance the experience for the campers, including: Project Adventure, Peace Games, Family Service of Greater Boston, the New England Aquarium, Mass Audubon, Save the Harbor-Save the Bay, Thompson Island Outward Bound, City Kicks, New England Scores, Tenacity, and Metro Lacrosse, Urban Improv and the Hip Hop Roundtable.
Contributions may also be made to the Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc. c/o the Connors Family Office, 200 Clarendon Street, 60th floor, Boston, MA 02116.

New Music Out today
Country 102.5 festival headliner Brad Paisley's new one 5th gear is in stores today:
Why "5th Gear"?....This is the fifth album. It feels like another gear to me, in the musical scheme of things. If you’re following the gear shift on a standard transmission, you do down to second, you go back up to third, you’re back down there to fourth, and that felt like what we achieved with Time Well Wasted. We’d pulled that lever back down to fourth. 5th Gear is something that you only reach on a straight stretch in a certain car, you know, where you get up past about 55 or 60. It felt like that. It felt like we were really pushing things further in every way.”
Be sure to check out"Oh Love" a duet with Carrie Underwood and "All I wanted was a car"....
--Nine years ago today #1 Brooks and Dunn w/ Reba "If You See him, If You See Her.
...as always thanks for listening.....

To benefit St. Judes
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® to benefit from
eBay Auction of Billy Joel’s Piano
WHAT: Ten percent of proceeds from an eBay auction of a piano played by Billy Joel on his “Nylon Curtain” tour (1981-1982) will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
WHEN: eBay auction live now
HOW: For more information regarding the auction, the piano, its authenticity and the story of how donor, Steve Larkin got the piano, please visit www.billyjoelspiano.com.
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION: A piano, once played by six-time GRAMMY® Award-winning Billy Joel (Songwriters Hall of Fame; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; among a host of other distinctions) will be auctioned off on eBay. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of the piano will benefit St. Jude.
“As parents, Brenda and I know how difficult it can be when your child is not well. When our youngest daughter was 10 months old, our pediatrician thought she had cystic fibrosis. We were beside ourselves with worry before we received the results. As it turned out, there was nothing wrong with her; she was just very, very, petite. But in that short time we came to understand how hard it can be for parents that don't get such positive news,” explained Steve Larkin regarding why he and his wife (Brenda) chose St. Jude as a beneficiary of the auction.
He added: “In these days of financially stressful times for many people (ourselves included) we knew that the only time we'd be able to help others not as fortunate as we are, would be when we sold the piano. We've come to that point and simply looked for the most respected children-oriented charity around that we were confident would accomplish the most good with our donation.”
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization. For more information, please visit www.stjude.org.
